Reluxe Founder, Clare Richardson has been a stylist for over 20 years and has consulted for brands such as Toteme, Calvin Klein & Tommy Hilfiger, she is a contributing editor for British Vogue and regularly styles supermodels & celebrities for red carpets or magazine covers. We caught up with her to talk style, inspiration and vintage fashion...

When a celebrity asks you to style them for an event, where do you look for inspiration?

I actually don’t tend to style celebrities for red carpets very often. I have always stuck to magazine covers, like British Vogue or Wall Street Journal as I feel like I get more creative freedom.

However, with someone like Sienna Miller, I really wanted to work with her because I love as a person, an actor and for what she stands for. I really thought we could collaborate on something amazing!

When I style someone like her I look at who they are as a person, what gets them excited, what have I seen them in before, what do we want to move away from etc - I really try to tap into them and their spirit.
“I love it when celebrities wear vintage because it shows individual style and you are guaranteed not to see anyone else in the same piece.”

Where did you source the amazing vintage Giorgio Armani black gown from that we recently saw Sienna Miller wearing on a red carpet?

Sienna loves wearing vintage - and obviously being the founder of Reluxe it is something that is really important to me. I love it when celebrities wear vintage because it shows individual style and you are guaranteed not to see anyone else in the same piece.

So for that particular dress, I actually spoke to the Giorgio Armani press office and specifically asked for an incredible wow black vintage dress.
“I want someone to feel confident and empowered by what they are wearing.”

What is most important to you when styling celebrities?

The most important thing - when styling a celebrity, a model, anyone - is that they are comfortable in their look. I find there is nothing worse than a girl wearing high heels that she can’t walk in, or a suit that doesn't fit properly and you can see them feeling uncomfortable. I want someone to feel confident and empowered by what they are wearing.

Who do you think is really pushing to include vintage on red carpets and what are the best vintage red carpet moments?

I think it’s a bit of both - stylists and the celebs and it really depends on what the celebrities believe in and what they stand for. Vintage is so exciting and exquisite and it is amazing when you find these hidden gems that you can put on the red carpet.

The one I will never forget and I love so much was Cate Blanchett when she wore the Jean Paul Gaultier vintage backless dress with gold jewellery. I thought that was stunning.
