Dressing with style in soaring temperatures is all about keeping your cool and following our advice.

When we think of long hot summers, we likely imagine ourselves on a beach, taking as much sun as we can handle, before jumping into the water to cool off. But alas, for the majority, long hot summers involve long hot commutes in big hot towns and cities. Dressing for summer in the city, is actually harder than dressing for the beach, but fear not, for Reluxe offers everything to keep you cool when you are feeling anything but. As ever, it is all about the edit and breaking it down to the key pieces…

The Dress

When it comes to dresses, the key is to think wafty and not clingy. Breathing room is essential, as anything constricting will immediately be uncomfortable. Shirt dresses are your friend. Keep them loose - though a little bit of waist definition goes a long way – unbutton as far down the neck as you desire, and as far up the leg as you are confident with. Roll up the sleeves, and simply team with chunky flat sandals for day, and open heeled sandals for night. Closed toe shoes in the height of summer are not your friend. Repeat that. Closed toe shoes in the height of summer are not your friend.

The Bag

We would all like to be minimalists who can get through the day with a tiny clutch, but sadly very few of us are. However, big work bags can still be sleek bags. To lift your look this summer opt for a hit of colour, and you will discover that shades of red, blue, green and caramel, are actually easy neutrals that work with a myriad of colours, designed to complement and not overwhelm. Top handle is better than cross body, as you will regret that strap in 30 degrees. Believe us.

The Shoes

It’s a good thing that your bag is so big, as this is the only season we permit the shoe change from flats to heels. Day to day, it is all about the flat sandal, the chunkier the better, so they become more of a statement. When it comes to evening, or workwear should you feel you need that extra lift, simpler is best. A slip on mule is chic, easy and works with your feet and not against them (this is also key!). Try a pop of colour if you desire, but we love a bit of summer black too.
