Clare’s Guide to Denim Dressing with FRAME

Denim is the hardest working section of your wardrobe, but that doesn’t mean it should be hard work to find your perfect fit. Given their staple status, it’s worth putting in the time to find a pair you love more with every wear. To narrow your search, we sought out the revered advice of founder and Vogue stylist Clare in this ultimate Guide to Denim Dressing.

1. Baggy Jeans
Are In

News that skinny jeans had gone into hibernation was enough to unnerve even the most trend-forward dresser. Yet, as baggier iterations have made their way from the catwalks of Celine, Chanel, and Balenciaga into the wardrobes of fashion It-girls this season, the looser-fit jean is universally flattering shape.

FRAME’s Le Slouch has become a favourite of mine - I love the lived-in look that’s edgy but still stylised. They’re designed to sit just under the hips, so there’s no need to buy a bigger size for that low-slung look.

2. Rip Up the Rule Book

Distressed denim is the cornerstone of off-duty dressing. As with most of the trends we saw for Spring 2023, jeans had a dramatic Y2K makeover, be it sandblasted like at Givenchy or Chloé’s stud-embellished version, but jeans are the perfect blank canvas to inject your own style.

For a dressed-down-but-dressed-up weekend, I’ll pair ripped jeans - just a subtle cut at the knee - with a structured blazer or an immaculately tailored coat, as the contrast is so unexpected. The FRAME flares are a staple in my weekend wardrobe - they fit true to size and are super flattering through the leg.

3. Cut It Short

Ahead of spring, cropped jeans take the top spot on my denim shopping list. The ideal length for cropped jeans is just above the ankle as this works perfectly to elongate the leg, elevated by a straight or boyfriend cut for a timeless silhouette.

Showcase your favourite footwear with Frame’s cropped iterations like these turned-up Le Garcon jeans. Featuring a rolled cuff and hip-slung rise, these jeans embody understated chic. This particular design is intended to be worn oversized to maximize its nonchalant appeal, but you can always size down for a more fitted look.

4. Beyond
Just Jeans

When you think denim, you think jeans. But it's such a versatile fabric, I’d challenge any denim-lover to think outside the box with a mannish shirt, maxi skirt, or statement dress. These are effortless weekend staples because they complement almost anything - your cosiest knitwear, a chic blouse - and transition seamlessly between seasons.

For an outfit that takes a matter of minutes, the mini shirt dress by FRAME can be instantly elevated with chunky lug boots and an oversized cardigan for the colder weather.
