Creative Directors, Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi launched Preen by Thornton Bregazzi in 1996 from a small store in West London, today it is a globally celebrated brand with a legion of A-list fans. Renowned for their romantic aesthetic, but with a rebellious twist, they explain the secret to their success, and how to have fun in fashion.

What was the idea behind Preen by Thornton Bregazzi? We began organically from a small store on Portobello Road, and we loved Victorian and popular culture, it was always about the idea of making something historical feel modern. Where does the inspiration come from? Film, Music, Travel, but there is no one place, it mostly comes from people and their style and attitudes. How do you work together? We both have similar taste and reference points, and we talk a lot and challenge each other!

What does sustainability and / or sustainable fashion mean to you? We have always been interested in recycling from our very 1st collections, but now sustainable to us is doing all we can to question and provide the most ethical product we can. What drew you to fashion? A love of clothes, and issues of The Face and i-D magazines What is the secret to your success and longevity? We do what we want when we want, and we are not influenced by trends. We are just interested in making a product that is relevant and we always develop while hopefully retaining our hand-writing.
How would you encourage a woman to wear colour and print? Just have fun and be bold, don't fear it. You will get more compliments than ever if you embrace it. If not now, when? What is the definition of a forever piece? Something that really feels and looks like you. What would you like the future of fashion to look like? A focus on quality and longevity, great design and less product. What are your favourite pieces from Relove x Preen by Thornton Bregazzi? The green pleat dress is our favourite, we love the way the tree bark pleating gives the georgette a modernity and a strength.
